Holiday Blues

the decorations lay on the curb . . .
forgotten memories  . . .
as we bid farewell to the season  . . .
that fill our hearts with peace  . . .
and an impulse to spread kindness  . . .
some compassion and charity too  . . .
a sedative to ease the indulgence guilt  . . .
from retail sharks baiting  . . .
greedy consumer victims  . . .
the corporate propaganda  . . .
to increase year-end profits  . . .

~0~

the holiday season is over  . . .
normal can be normal again  . . .
no more joyful teary eyed movies  . . .
filling our hearts with hope  . . .
no calls sprinkled with guilt  . . .
begging for donations  . . .
just the weatherman promising  . . .
blustery winds and blinding storms  . . .

~0~

memories of joy depart  . . .
we embrace the melancholy hugs  . . .
and welcome the winter days  . . .
melting into the frigid cold  . . .
sipping spiked hot chocolate  . . .
that will conjure intoxicating dreams  . . .
we’ll cuddle with comfort food  . . .
collecting delicious pounds  . . .
that unselfishly spreading  . . .
as prime time delights  . . .
our imaginations  . . .

~0~

best be shuffling out the door  . . .
to that nine to five  . . .
to make the dollars to spend  . . .
in 361 days when Christmas returns  . . .
don’t worry  . . .
you should just about be  . . .
crawling out  . . .
of last year’s debt  . . .
ready for the new  . . .

  1. A very apt poem as we store those Christmas Decorations. Our Tree we had outdoor went into the compost recycle bin today.. Yes now many start paying the price paid on card for their merry Christmas..

And soon in the everyday work load will soon tell it’s toll on the Christmas Cheer.. Wonderful Poem that reflects the aftermath so well.. ..
Love and Blessings Dear Kim.. xxx

  2. So true all of that. It depresses me every year, seeing people sucked into the whole consumer thing. I’m very rebellious, so won’t play ball with any of it. And I am glad that things will now return to normal — until the Easter Eggs start appearing in the shops … tomorrow!
